On October 1, 2015, before Music Compound had even opened, owner Jenny Townsend spearheaded the inaugural Beer, Bands and BBQ event. A portion of the proceeds benefited a local nonprofit and the remainder was used to execute Townsend’s very first lease on Music Compound’s Cattlemen location in Sarasota.
Seven years later, Music Compound – along with event partner NextHome Excellence – will present the 6th annual Beer, Bands and BBQ. The event takes place Saturday, October 1, 1-6 p.m. at the Sarasota Farm Bureau (7289 Palmer Blvd., next door to Big Cat Habitat).
Food trucks and beer will be available to patronize throughout the day. Bands that will perform during the event include local cover bands Blind Squirrel and MonkeyFinger, and Music Compound bands Unspoken, Craig the Skeleton, and Trey Wanvig. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.
The nonprofit beneficiary of the event, with all beer sales being designated to the organization, is Heroes Welcome Home, which offers financial assistance for home-buying as well as a housing assistance program – providing rental and utility deposits, repair and maintenance, and emergency relief – for veterans.
“Not only is this an exciting, fun and family-friendly event – with musical styles to suit diverse tastes – it’s also tremendously meaningful to me, personally and professionally, as the inaugural event seven years ago helped make my dream of Music Compound a reality,” said Townsend. “I hope the community will come to enjoy the afternoon while supporting a great local cause.”
