Drum lessons
Kids love to play drums! So do adults. Our drum lesson teachers help you learn and
have fun from day one.
Approach
First, you’ll establish a sense of hand-eye coordination. The separation of your limbs is key. There are classic snare drum rudiments pro drummers have been using for over 50 years. Your instructor may combine these with a modern approach and apply these techniques directly to the drum-set. This way, we can paint a visual, or mental, picture you can use to play your favorite songs.
Are drum lessons right for you?
The drums are a high energy, rhythmic instrument. There is a lot of repetition, so it’s for those who both have or need focus in their lives. You also use your entire body to play the drums, so it’s great to develop coordination and burn some extra energy. It’s also the perfect instrument for those who just enjoy rhythm.
What to expect in your first drum lesson
First, you’ll learn the best way to hold your drumsticks. Next, we start immediately playing to create a sense of limb separation. Then, you’ll learn your first rhythm notes while we discuss what music you enjoy most. Lastly, you will learn your first grooves in order to play along with your favorite songs.

Drums: Backbeat of our lives!

The drums have been a mainstay of music for a very long time indeed. Along with the human voice, percussion is one of the oldest forms of musical expression.
Today’s common drum kit is just 100 years old, but drums have been around for millennia. And although the advent of drum machines and sampling in the modern era may have pushed the proper, human-played drum kit further to the background, for many, there’s simply no substitute for the real thing. As historian and drummer Daniel Glass says, “Humans have been beating on things since the beginning of time. The idea of just hitting something hard and getting an immediate volume out of it is irreplaceable. It’s so primal. It’s so primitive.”
All the way through the modern era in myriad genres — from blues, to jazz, to big bands, to the popular music of today — drum lessons continue to entice and enthrall music lovers of all ages.
