SARASOTA, FL – Music Compound’s popular “Rock Your Summer Reading” program grew significantly this year, as children logged their reading and received special treats, cool items and one-of-a-kind experiences donated by area businesses as prizes for every five books read (as the number of books a child reads increases, the value of prizes he or she can earn grows). Nearly 80 children participated this year, logging more than 1,700 total books.
With 27 qualifying for the grand prize drawing by reading more than 50 books, Amber Rogers, 9, was the winner of the party for up to 25 at Music Compound’s Cattlemen location. Rogers and her friends will enjoy karaoke, pizza, bounce house donated by Let’s Jump Rentals, and cool treats donated by Kona Ice ($600 party value).
Rogers is a Manatee County fourth-grader who participates in Florida’s wonderful homeschooling community groups, Learning and Families and Classical Conversations. She loves art and plays competitive soccer for the Braden River Soccer Club. Her mother, Keischa Rogers, says that Amber struggled as an early reader but has since gained confidence; she affirms that Rock Your Summer Reading was an excellent motivator for her to read every chance she got. In fact, she was so excited about the program that she even inspired her older brother to participate in the challenge as well.
Music Compound is committed to educating all year long, including when school is out for the summer. In addition to hosting an in-person summer camp, Music Compound launches the Rock Your Summer Reading initiative each year on June 1. The goal of Rock Your Summer Reading is to inspire kids to read while offering the added benefit of driving families to area businesses.
“This program was very well planned with great motivators at each milestone,” Keischa Rogers said. “Visiting Music Compound was a pleasant experience and the staff is so friendly. ‘Rock Your Summer Reading’ truly inspired my children to rock their summer reading!”
